The American Revolutionary War was a major historical event which impacted many colonial families. It is hard to imagine that any family was left unaffected. Many families were divided, with multiple factors leading to which side they eventually chose to pledge their loyalty.

Genealogical Education Goals
Most of the major holiday celebrations are coming to a close. Perhaps you were fortunate enough to have opportunity to visit with family, and even to interview some of your family members, or browse through family photos. Be sure to record any family stories you were able to discover over this holiday season, as well as recording your own annual memories. It certainly was another year to remember!
Now it is time to get ready to plan for new genealogical adventures. What do you hope to discover? Do you have a research focus? Making Realistic Genealogical Goals is key to successful research, both in the short term, and with long lasting rewards. Knowing what you want to accomplish is not enough. You need to make definite plans. Are you planning to apply to a lineage society? Do you need to get your files and documents organized? Implement a system that works for you. Have you lost where you left off in your research? Review the notes for your findings and make a proper Research Plan. Forgot where you found that information? Be sure to always cite your sources at the time of the discovery in order to review your work and make sure you will be able to find that source again.
At a time when the accessibility of many repositories is uncertain, and possibly closed to in-person visits, work on what you can achieve at home and stay organized. Make a detailed list of what has been left undone and needs to have follow-up analysis. Then set your goals for how you will complete each task for each of your research projects. You have a brand-new open calendar before you – plan your time wisely.
Do you have education goals? Make a list of the topics you want to pursue. How can you accomplish this goal? Is there a new book to read on the topic? Are there webinars to watch? Does the topic require more in-depth study over a period of time? How can online education help meet your goals?

Genealogy in a Package
What’s on Your 2022 Wish List?
Tis the season for packages! Some are arriving at our door; some we are piling into our car at the mall; while others are safely hidden away until it’s time to wrap them for that special day. We all love to receive them and to open them. However, some package contents are better than others. Slippers and socks are fun (usually), and a gift card is fun to spend, but how much better if your package was genealogy-related?
The holidays are a great time to gather with family members and reminisce about days gone by. Be sure to make the most of opportunities to share stories and browse through the old photo albums. (Psst – make note to scan any photos you didn’t know about!) Ask questions about your family history and watch them share their memories to the next generation.
Do you have family members who are asking you what is on your Wish List? Have you been thinking about your genealogy wish list? Have you already drafted some 2022 research goals? It may be that you have dropped several hints, but what will you receive? If they need some suggestions, we have a solution! The National Institute for Genealogical Studies can make sure your package has just the right online courses for your 2022 genealogy education plan.

You can choose any of our 225+ courses individually, or one of our specific Course Packages listed below, but did you know that you can also create your own unique package? Choose 4, 7, 8, 10 or 13 courses and make your package with the exact courses needed for your own distinctive research project. See details for all Course Packages here.

The Waiting is Finally Over
The hourglass has finally run its course leading up to our Second Announcement. Thank you for your patience. No more suspense, the details are now released.
A Special Announcement from The National Institute for Genealogical Studies:
20% DISCOUNT – words you like to hear…
REGISTRATION FEE INCREASE… words I am sure you don’t want to hear.
December 2007 was the last time the registration fees were adjusted. Yes, you read that correctly, 14 years ago! Remember 2008? That’s when the economy was hit hard. We froze the fees in 2008, and although we have tried numerous times since to raise the fees, the timing simply was not right. Nearly two years ago, in March 2020, we were in the process of again starting the process and then… Covid hit. People were losing their jobs; again, we pulled back and left the fees where they were.
The time has come; it must be done.
BUT it is not all bad news…
We know that for some, this will be more difficult than for others. Here are some OPTIONS:
- 20% DISCOUNT on ALL registrations (includes individual courses and packages). Use CODE at checkout. (We had originally planned for a 10% discount, but it’s the time of the year to be jolly!) Note: CODE has now expired.
Registrations must be received by midnight Eastern Time on Monday, December 20th. - Register Packages to complete your program. Save substantially: the more courses in the package, the bigger the savings. (Not sure what you need to finish your program? Contact us.)
- Money is a little tight because of Christmas? Ask us to defer your payment.
- PAYMENT PLAN: We do not charge interest nor service fees, and we can spread the payments over several months. We know Christmas is just around the corner; if it helps, we can start your payments in January 2022.
If you have any questions, or you would like to know the most economical way of completing your program, please contact me:
- On our site: click on the button at the bottom of each page, leave us a message, we will contact you. Make sure to include your name, email address, and phone number if you would like us to call you.
- Send an email: admin@genealogicalstudies.com
- Call: 1-800-580-0165 ext 1
We are here to help you reach your genealogical goals…
Louise St Denis, Managing Director
