Student Lecture: Leave No Clue Unresearched

The National Institute for Genealogical Studies has a student presentation coming up. We hope you can join us to show your fellow student support.

Our course, Lecturing Skills Including Preparation, teaches the skills needed to present genealogical-related lectures. It is a “hands-on” course where the student presents a lecture via our VIRTUAL LEARNING ROOM. We invite you to participate and hear your fellow student. This is a 30-minute lecture, followed by a 10-minute Question & Answer period and a short poll to provide the student with feedback on their skills. Please come and support your fellow students!

This is an excellent learning experience for all involved – the student presenter and the audience! We all can learn new and interesting tidbits, even from topics that are not in our area of research. NOTE: This session is FREE and you do not have to be a current or past student to attend.

LEADERS IN ONLINE GENEALOGY EDUCATION since 1997

Related Faces Featured in July Student Lounge

At The National Institute for Genealogical Studies, we enhance the online learning experience for our students by promoting #StudentLife opportunities. Every month, there is a Student Lounge virtual meeting scheduled for our students. Since we have migrated our meetings to the Zoom platform, we are now planning to offer special presentation sessions, beginning with our July Student Lounge. Watch for our next scheduled Student Lounge Virtual Meetings in our VIRTUAL LEARNING ROOM.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RELATED FACES
In July, we were pleased to offer a bonus to our regular Student Lounge session. We had a special presentation from guest speaker: Tina LaFreniere of Related Faces. Tina developed Related Faces to help identify people in antique photos. She shared this exciting new resource for identifying those unlabeled photos in our inherited family collections by pairing recognizable facial features of family members, even if they are different ages. This will definitely advance our family history storytelling by enabling us to visually display our past extended family members to the current generation who never knew them.
You can begin with a 14-Day FREE Trial to set up your profiles for each family member and their photos. Privacy is ensured for living people. Please follow Copyright restrictions, which means you should only use photos that you have, or have permission to use. Then upload your photos and start pairing. Related Faces will identify the same or similar faces in photos and allows you to organize your photos on your home page. You will be able to connect to other users to collaborate, and perhaps discover new family connections. Mobile uploads allow you to scan and add photos right from your mobile device. It also has a feature to compare your photos to the United States Library of Congress’ photo collection.
As a Thank You to The National Institute for Genealogical StudiesRelated Faces is offering a 25% Discount for a limited time to our students, and has graciously extended the invitation to our followers as well.
Coupon Code: RFELWQPJ66.
Please Note: This coupon will expire on 15 August 2022.
We encourage our followers to take advantage of the 14-Day FREE Trial at Related Faces and explore what this website has to offer. You may solve a long-time family photo mystery, or even topple a brick wall by identifying that face beside your ancestor.
NOTE: You can view a recording of the presentation that was given in this session here.
LEADERS IN ONLINE GENEALOGY EDUCATION since 1997
Student Lounge Virtual Meetings
At The National Institute for Genealogical Studies, we want to enhance the online learning experience for our students by promoting #StudentLife opportunities. Every month, there is a virtual meeting scheduled just for our students to connect and share. As genealogy is often a solitary endeavour, this is an opportunity to join others who are just as enthusiastic about family history and anxious to discuss research topics. Students can enquire about courses they are interested in registering for, or question students who have already completed them. Sharing their experiences with newer students is valuable!
As an added bonus since mid-July, we have migrated our meetings to the Zoom platform, where students can now interact face-to-face and engage in verbal discussions rather than be limited to only typing in the chat box. They can now put a face to the names they have seen in the comments and discussions for their online assignments. #StudentLife is more than recognizing the names of their fellow students, it is getting to know them! After all, many of these students may become contacts in their future researcher networks.
The schedule for all of our Virtual Meetings can be found on our website under VIRTUAL LEARNING ROOM. Watch for our next Student Lounge when the monthly Virtual Meetings schedule is posted here to our blog.
Watch for upcoming Special Presentations in our Students Lounge sessions.
