National Institute for Genealogical Studies course author Lisa Alzo,M.F.A. was honored by the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International  at their conference on October 21st in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Presented with the Distinguished Achievement Award CGSI’s conference chair, Paul Makousky introduced the award with the following:

This 3rd ever recipient of the CGSI’s Distinguished Achievement Award has contributed in many ways to the education of people with Czech, Slovak and Rusyn ancestry. The recipient has authored over 20 articles for the CGSI’s quarterly publication Nase Rodina, has contributed as a speaker at CGSI Conferences and quarterly meetings, and served as a member of the CGSI Board of Directors.
Our recipient has been a frequent lecturer, book author, writing coach, and great resource for many genealogical societies throughout the country.

Our recipient’s history with the CGSI goes back to our 2001 Conference which was held in this same location at which time another fellow Slovak, Joseph Hornack of Cleveland, OH was named an awardee of our Distinguished Service Award. It was the recipient’s first time as a genealogical speaker.

The recipient I can say is a personal friend and very worthy of receiving this walnut plaque adding to a fine line of previous recipients including the late Margie Sobotka of Omaha, Nebraska and current attendee Leo Baca of Richardson, Texas.

I am very proud to award this plaque to none other than Lisa Alzo, of Ithaca, New York.

Congratulations to Lisa on receiving this honor. Lisa’s work is well-known and her expertise has been  key in helping many genealogists find their family history.
