First, let’s clarify what makes something a “trade school.” A trade or vocational school is an educational institution, operating post high school or college, that provides specialized instruction to prepare students for a specific job or profession.

A Stellar Review
We love to hear from our students!
Many of our students share positive comments and reviews online about our courses and instructors. This week we received a 5 Star review from one of our students, Judith T., that is so heartwarming we decided to share it. Judith has been studying genealogy with IIGS for over 20 years. She has also purchased several mentoring sessions with our instructors.
This is what Judith’s review says:
“Outstanding experience with mentoring sessions
I have now purchased four 30-minute mentoring sessions with three different instructors at IIGS. They were a great value and met the highest professional standards. To ensure I got the most from each session, I wrote down and submitted my questions beforehand. In every instance, my questions were thoroughly answered. All mentors were knowledgeable , had prepared in advance, and each offered suggestions and links for further self-exploration. I am strictly a family historian and my searches have taken me around the globe. Whether it was reviewing my work to ensure I hadn’t missed important sources, figuring out obscure land records, learning how to navigate a complex database, or helping prepare a research plan for an offshore trip, in each case my experience was exceptional. I have since met and worked with professional genealogists in other institutions, and my experience with the mentors at IIGS ranked among the very best. My investment and experiences were excellent.“
Thank you, Judith, for the great review!
At IIGS we strive to give our students an excellent online genealogy education. Our motto is, “Grace and Mercy for Adults who are Adulting”. We understand that, sometimes, things get in the way of plans, and we work with our students to ensure they are successful.

How Can A Mentoring Appointment Help?
Student, Judith Tracey, found the help she needed from both her course and a mentoring professor appointment. Here’s her thoughts about what it’s like to attend the International Institute of Genealogical Studies and work with a mentoring professor.
“Just a quick note to tell you that I am delighted with my tutorial with
Laurie James. She was well prepared, thorough and very personable. I am so
grateful for IIGS support with my Irish studies. They are outside of my
American Records courses and my lack of familiarity with things Irish makes
some aspects of some of the courses quite challenging. I knew from the
beginning that navigating the Irish Registry of Deeds can be difficult, but
I was not prepared for the complexities which I experienced. However,
Laurie walked me through and we did an example together, and she helped me
make sense of it. I was able to return to the collection today (five days
later) and was able to work my way through, from the index to the memorial
books, which was the objective. You can only imagine how good that makes me
feel. There is so much information in those documents that I need to
retrieve, it would be a pity to be unable to access and explore them. I am
relieved. In closing, I would like to share my positive IIGS ‘Irish experience’, both
with Claire and Laurie with other students and those considering enrolment.
Please let me know where I should post my positive remarks.”
Your happy student/client,
Judith Tracey
