At IIGS we have several courses to help you get started with your book. We’ll take you from the basics of writing right through to publication.
Writing Your Family History Book is one of our Basic Level Electives. This is a great course to get you started. You’ll learn the art of storytelling, how to organize your research, how to interview family members, and much more.
Life of Our Ancestors gets more into the details of writing your book. You’ll look at historical context, copyright and ethics, where to look for writing support, and different publishing options.
Writing the Genealogist’s Memoir takes you through writing Your Story! You’ll learn why your memoir is important, how to organize your thoughts before beginning to write, ideas of what to include in your personal story, and how to deal with uncomfortable memories.
Executive Director, Angela Breidenbach, PLCGS, is a published author! She is the successful author of historical novels based on her own family tree, has been published many times in several magazines, and is often asked to give talks at writing retreats.
