Professional Genealogists are often asked to be guest speakers at different events. This six-module course will equip you with the confidence and skills needed to plan a successful lecture and engage your audience.
What You Will Learn:
The preparation required to become a successful Genealogical Lecturer starts with developing your genealogy resume and biography. You will explore the different types of biographies you may be asked for and how to write them. Your genealogy resume is also discussed with suggestions of what to include in it.
You will learn how to put together a description of your lecture, create an effective slide presentation as well as write a syllabus or handout for your audience. Your actual presentation is addressed with technique tips, how to perfect your timing and how you decide to handle a question-and-answer period.
In-person and virtual lectures are another topic which is explored. You will discuss different types of slide presentations, software and required equipment for both forms of lecture. How a virtual lecture works is explained, as well as the pros and cons of this unique format of sharing information.
Other course topics include marketing your business online, creating newsletter articles and how to set your rates for speaking engagements.
This in-demand course is open for registration in September, January and March. An IIGS instructor is available to guide you through the course and to ensure you are on schedule with the time requirements.
