Lecturing Skills – Student Presentations coming soon

We have some student presentations coming up. We hope you can join us as our Lecturing Skills students share their presentations

Join us while our Lecturing Skills students share their presentations

The International Institute for Genealogical Studies course, Lecturing Skills Including Preparation, teaches the skills needed to present genealogical-related lectures. It is a “hands-on” course where the student presents a lecture via our Virtual Learning Room. We invite you to participate and hear your fellow student. This is a 30-minute lecture, followed by a 10-minute Question & Answer period and a short poll to provide the student with feedback on their skills. Please come and support your fellow students!  This is an excellent learning experience for all involved–the student presenter and the audience! We all can learn new and interesting tidbits, even from topics that are not in our area of research.

Tuesday, June 14th at 8:30 PM Eastern, Drew von Hasselbach presents “Money Talks: Translating old prices over time”
Presentation Description: Business journalist Drew von Hasselbach shows how online “inflation calculators” can reveal the present-day value of the prices in your old family documents. And without the math!
Presenter: Journalist and lawyer Drew von Hasselbach has pursued genealogy for 30+ years. He has experience with records from Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Germany and Eastern Europe.

Monday, June 20th at 8:00 PM Eastern, Jennifer Roodzant presents “Correlation of Mined Evidence to Advance Research Objectives”
Presentation Description: When genealogists correlate mined evidence, they consider source independence, reliability, bias, and assumptions. See examples that identify a question of relationship and learn strategies to use in your own research.
Presenter: Jennifer Roodzant is a professional genealogist specializing in DNA and the Southern U.S. She volunteers as Napa Valley Genealogical Society Board of Director’s secretary.

We would like to thank Kathy Holland for hosting the student presentations.
